History of Location
Mount McDowell, more commonly referred to as Red Mountain, is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation. It is named after General Irvin McDowell, a Union officer in the Civil War. Its elevation is 2,832 feet. It is not the same landmark as the McDowell Peak, which is 11 miles away to the northwest. Mount McDowell is often called “Red Mountain” or “FireRock”, due to its composition of sandstone conglomerate which gives it a distinctive red color that glows during sunset. The deep cleft on its western side is known as “Gunsight” because of its resemblance to the narrow slot in a fort used for firing at attackers.
The mountain is very photogenic but it’s difficult to photograph up close. The mountain is located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Reservation.
Check In/Check Out
Check in: Feel free to check in anytime after noon on your arrival date. We offer a keyless front door lockpad so you can easily come and go as you please. We ask that you double check each time you leave that it is locked. We will text you the code 48 hours prior to arrival.
Check out: Check out is at 11am on your date of departure. If you need to stay longer, just let us know and we will do what we can to accomodate. For check out, we ask you place any used towels and sheets on top of the washer for the cleaners. Your trash should be placed in the appropriate cans in the garage prior to departure.
*To confirm your stay, one night deposit is required. 30 day cancellation with no penalties.
